Austinites who enjoy the outdoors and the creative spirit of our city will feel right at home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. With art museums, historical streets, scenic hiking trails, and the nearby slopes for winter sports, there’s something for every kind of traveler. Whether planning a solo trip, family vacation, or a romantic getaway, Santa Fe offers experiences so memorable you’ll be planning a second trip by the time this one bids farewell.

Friday
Staying near the plaza is a must for a weekend in Santa Fe. The plaza (aka city center) shares space with its unique local lifestyle with hotels adorned in adobe architecture and balconies overlooking the lively square. La Fonda on the Plaza (est. 1607), La Posada de Santa Fe (est. 1882), or the famously haunted Drury Plaza Hotel all fit the bill. Strolling around the plaza to explore the shops and galleries provides enough entertainment on its own. But Coyote Cafe’s rooftop bar, their house margaritas, and one of their green chili dishes spice it up a notch. Their flavors are unique, yet perfectly balanced, while winding down from your travel day with a cocktail in hand, enjoying the blazing sunset.

Saturday
The French Pastry Shop’s crepe and coffee offer a sweet treat and caffeine fix to the morning. The Santa Fe Indian Market is where you can find native handmade pieces and vibrant local art. If you’re looking for more history, Georgia O’Keeffe Museum or the New Mexico Museum of Art are both just a short walk from the plaza. For dinner, Radish & Rye offers more elevated, locally-sourced fare while La Boca is famous for its Spanish and Mediterranean-inspired tapas and drinks.

Sunday
Tesuque Village Market for brunch hits the spot while you can also pick up a few fun souvenirs from their market. Some of the country’s oldest churches call Santa Fe home, including Loretto Chapel Museum and San Miguel Chapel which is the oldest church in the United States. Santa Fe is full of historic hidden gems and a mountain range that simply cannot be explored in just one visit. By the time the tangerine sun sets on your final day in Santa Fe, you’ll be dreaming of your next quick and easy retreat to the mountains.

Where to Stay? For a family vacation, Meow Wolf is an immersive experience with 85 rooms that all ages will enjoy (even the adults). If it’s winter, it’s time to put on your snow gear and head to Ski Santa Fe. The mountain has an array of green to double black slopes to pump up adrenaline, and it’s only a 30-minute drive from town.
