Ancient Roots in East Austin

Healing the Body and Spirit

When Kathy Duffy first visited Austin, something shifted, and she never looked back. Today, her practice, Rosewood Acupuncture & Ayurveda, is rooted in community, steeped in ancient tradition, and committed to keeping healthcare accessible.

Formerly in academic publishing in the Boston area, Kathy has called Austin home for the last two decades. After leaving publishing, Kathy studied massage in Boston before moving south to attend acupuncture school. There, she met her business cofounder, Vivian Linden, and now runs her 11 year old acupuncture practice on her own.

From the start, the vision was clear: create a community-oriented practice on the Eastside where people from all walks of life feel welcome to heal. Originally in a space above a liquor store on 12th and Chicon, you’ll now find Rosewood at 2900 East 12th Street, an airy space full of green house plants, above a yoga and wellness studio.

Rosewood’s offerings draw from two ancient healing systems. Chinese medicine shows up through acupuncture, cupping, and gua sha. Ayurveda, the classical Indian medical tradition, comes to life through treatments such as abhyanga (a ritual oil massage) and garshana (lymphatic dry brushing with raw silk gloves). Together, they address everything from musculoskeletal pain and stress to anxiety and sleep disorders.

“I want to be open to a wide variety of people,” says Kathy. “I want to be welcoming to everybody, in the spirit of Chinese medicine.”

That spirit extends to pricing. Kathy works to keep sessions as accessible as possible, offering package rates and other options for patients on tight schedules or budgets. She’s also expanding her facial acupuncture offerings to include anti-aging techniques.

What keeps Kathy rooted on this side of town is her community of clients. “Having moved all over Austin, the Eastside is what feels like home to me,” she explains. “It has the diversity that I love.” After years of guiding patients through pregnancies, recoveries, and all manner of life transitions, Rosewood has become less clinic, more sanctuary—where the ancient and the everyday meet in quiet, purposeful healing.

Did you know? Acupuncture can increase blood flow, stimulating collagen and elastin production contributing to the body’s ability to smooth fine lines and improve skin texture. Rosewood has several facial rejuvenation and skincare treatments to choose from.
