Most Epic Spring Break Trips for 2022

The Scenic Route: Austin to Chicago

As frosty mornings subside in favor of temperate Texas weather here in Austin, the landscape begins its slow process of spring renewal. For a leisurely, renewing solo spring break trip of your own, take the train from Austin to Chicago

Book the Amtrak route Texas Eagle, which takes passengers directly from Austin to the heart of the Windy City in just over 24 hours. Depart from the centrally located station and find yourself passing through the hill country and catapulting across the heartland. Take the time to discover the varied beauty of  Arkansas’ landscape as you roll along. Missouri, too, offers unbelievable views of the Ozark Highlands.

Upon arriving in Chicago, be prepared for colder weather as you explore the city. The brisk wind will spur you on as you explore the city’s parks and public artwork. If you find yourself getting cold, pop into an Irish pub and warm up with good company and a sip of something strong. If you’re feeling adventurous, order a Malort-based cocktail, a Chicago specialty. The populous city has plenty of options for lodging, though The Drake Hotel may offer the best central location for the trip. Once the week is over, hop back on the Texas Eagle for the pensive ride home.
