Local Creativity in Full Bloom: Blue Genie’s May Market Returns for Fifth Year
If spring in Austin had a scent, it would probably be a mix of fresh flowers, melted candle wax, and just a hint of screen-printed ink. That’s the vibe at Blue Genie Art Bazaar’s Fifth Annual May Market, returning this May for five weekends of curated local art, handmade goods, and community cheer.
Kicking off Friday, May 2, and running through June 1, this seasonal pop-up transforms Blue Genie’s airy headquarters at 6100 Airport Blvd into a lively showcase of nearly 200 regional artists and artisans. Doors are open Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with a special opening on Memorial Day, May 26. As always, entry is free.
Much like Blue Genie’s beloved holiday market, the May edition features a wide range of handcrafted goods: from whimsical watercolor prints by Kim Kaiser Art, to sustainable wooden wares by Honeywood, to puzzles, jewelry, candles, and pet apparel. Some familiar names in this year’s lineup include Dawn & Dusk Jewelry, Fabulous Paws, The Burlap Bag, and Apiece Puzzles.
For those looking to bring the kids (or your inner kid), the market also offers free family-friendly activities each weekend. Expect DIY printmaking sessions on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and a light-hearted scavenger hunt to keep little ones entertained while you shop.
One not-to-miss moment? On Mother’s Day (Sunday, May 11) from 12–3 p.m., the ever-popular Typewriter Rodeo will be back with their quick-witted, heartfelt poetry-on-demand—perfect for a one-of-a-kind gift or just a memorable memento.
“We love seeing the joy people get when they find something unique—especially during spring gifting season,” says co-founder Dana Younger. “Whether you’re shopping for moms, dads, grads, or just yourself, there’s something here for every budget and every personality.”
