Hot Toddies at The Cavalier

Arm yourself against a brutal winter with a cozy drink.

Words & Photos by Gabby Frasier

Austin’s winters are well-known for being mild, but meteorologists are predicting that this winter will be particularly chilly. Just in time for the cold snap, The Cavalier released their hot beverage options, including the Classic Hot Toddy.

The Cavalier’s Classic Hot Toddy is filled with a generous pour of Buffalo Trace bourbon, dashed with honey and piping-hot water, and garnished with whole allspice berries, a cinnamon stick, and a lemon slice. One sip of this hot, spiced drink will warm even the coldest Eastsider’s heart.

Hot toddies are a true winter standard—and not just because of their spicy, comforting flavors. Some claim the ingredients can cure cold-weather ailments. The spices and lemon in hot toddies are said to soothe sore throats, while the drink’s hot temperature can improve congestion.

Along with the Classic Hot Toddy, The Cavalier’s hot drink menu offers five soul-warming options, such as Grandma’s Hot Chocolate made with Fireball-spiked Ovaltine and the Hot Buttered Rum with Captain Morgan Spiced Rum, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, brown sugar, and butter. Throw on your warm socks, grab a buddy, and curl up in one of The Cavalier’s roomy booths to enjoy one of these seasonal boozy drinks.

The Cavalier plans to serve up hot drinks through February or “until it stops being cold outside,” says co-owner Chadwick Leger.
