5 Must-See East Austin Studio Tour Stops

Don’t miss these must-see art stops

Words by Gabby Frasier Art (left) by Stella Alesi from The Femme Abstract

East Austin Studio Tour (EAST) is a free, self-guided tour that allows Austinites to engage with artists in their creative studios and galleries, collaborative exhibitions, and temporary art spaces. EAST 2018 has 575 stops to choose from. Visiting all would be nearly impossible, so here’s a list of five not-to-be-missed EAST stops.

420. The Femme Abstract {Exhibition}

EAST is an annual reminder of Austin’s ability to bring together and nurture creative communities, and The Femme Abstract is no exception. Curated by Moya McIntyre, this temporary exhibition showcases contemporary works from over 50 local female artists in a wide range of media. Join the featured artists for a panel and talk on November 17 at noon.

143. Joseph Phillips {Gallery}

Combining his interests for creating art and building homes, EAST co-founder Joseph Phillips explores issues of absurdity, survival, and luxury in his show at Northern-Southern, “Scapes.” Phillips’ gouache paintings depict imagined home landscapes with a dreamlike style that evokes architectural renderings and inspires political, fantastic thought.

229. EAST Group Exhibition {Exhibition}

More than 400 participating EAST artists have works on display in this giant exhibition hosted by Big Medium, the arts non-profit behind East Austin Studio Tour. EAST Group Exhibition provides maps and geographically organizes the artworks by tour stop number, allowing visitors to discover new artists and plan their EAST routes in a single lap around the space.

83. Revelry Makers Market {Happening}

Just in time for holiday gift shopping season, Revelry Makers Market will bring together the wares and works of over 60 East Austin makers at the Mueller Browning Hangar, including home wares, clothing, jewelry, stationary, and more. With creative workshops, food trucks, and complimentary sips from JuiceLand and Dripping Springs Vodka, this free event takes place at Browning Hanger on November 17, 10am-4pm.

419. Sarah Annie Navarrete {Exhibition}
