Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is making waves: forging delectable local dining options with stress-free travel.

Words by Nicky Baylor

Looking and feeling healthy during winter travel is never easy, but we’ve got the lowdown on where those last-minute essentials and the best new dining joints are at Barbara Jordan (main) terminal.

Sometimes life happens! And right by Gate 18, you’ll find Austin Article, which stocks a Huggies pack that includes two diapers and an 8-count of wipes. They also have an entire wall of travel-sized goodies for every need, including Dramamine for Kids, found at the far left corner of the store.

In a panic because you don’t have a phone charger? Or need to back up all the amazing photos taken during travel? Or need some earbuds for the trip? Many universal options are available at Book People, located near Gate 20. Book People also carries an amazing selection of youth books and plenty of board books for toddlers.

With winter comes dry skin, chapped lips, and limp hair. If beauty is what you’re on the hunt for, Benefit Cosmetics kiosk, near Gate 14 or Gate 23 right next to Best Buy kiosks, contains a small selection of electronic goods.

When it comes to eating at the airport, hot dogs and pretzels with a side of black coffee are a thing of the past. Try a taste of Austin while waiting for your flight with quick, satisfying bites from some of Austin’s best. Peached Tortilla, near Gate 16, offers a variety of indulgent-meets-healthy, with an awesome selection of breakfast tacoslike the Brisket & Egg. Mad Greens recently opened next door to Peached Tortilla, and newcomer Fig + Plum has taken up residence under Austin Article’s previous digs near Gate 15, offering up a menu of taco-meets-barbecue flair.

If flying out of Austin’s South Terminal, there is a full array of rotating food truck dining options, complete with an outdoor patio and even a pet relief area. Austin’s South Terminal is one of only 3 airports to offer post-gate food truck dining options. More exciting dining options are in full haul, with even more to come in the spring of 2019, including Flyrite Chicken, Eastside Pies, and Hat Creek Burger.
