Beth Coffey, founder of Dancin’ Austin, has a mission to get people moving, laughing, and connecting. Her free two-step lessons light up The White Horse several nights a week, and for Beth, it’s about so much more than dance steps.“With so many new faces in Austin and longtime locals ready to reemerge after COVID, music is the perfect way to come together,” Beth insists.

Her classes are famously beginner-friendly. “We start super simple. We literally walk in a circle to the beat,” she laughs.

“Everyone can do it, and anyone can lead or follow. This isn’t about gender or romance; dancing is about connection.”

Beth has seen firsthand how dancing breaks down barriers. “When you dance with someone, even just for a song, you get this burst of joy. Your brain lights up, and suddenly you’ve made a new friend, or at least had a memorable experience,” she grins.

From flash mobs to team-building events for Fortune 500 companies, Beth brings the same energy everywhere she teaches by turning dance into a tool for connection. And while she’s proud of her Texas roots, being an eighth-generation Texan with a family history of two-stepping under the stars, she’s just as proud of how diverse her classes are. “All walks of life show up, and everyone’s welcome. It’s safe, it’s fun, and it’s free!”

For Beth, it all comes back to joy. “When you dance to live music, it’s pure magic, and it’s the best way to experience the heart of Austin.” As she puts it, “Once you get bit by the dance bug, good luck. You’re hooked.”
