#5: Interlaken, Switzerland
Imagine sitting in a village nestled in a valley of the Swiss Alps, right between two emerald lakes – that is Interlaken. While shopping and beautiful walks may be the town’s biggest attraction, you will continuously see adventurers soaring through the sky as you stroll through the streets or while sitting at a cafe sipping some of the world’s best coffee.
As the adventure capital of Switzerland, and questionably the world, stepping out of one’s comfort zone is highly encouraged here. Between hiking, canyoning, paragliding, skydiving, kayaking, there’s hardly a chance to get bored. Yes, that’s right, I said canyoning. Let me explain; think extreme hiking. Everyone puts on a wetsuit and piles into a van to head up to the top of a gorge, after taking a short stroll through the woods, you reach the edge of a rocky cliff. And the thrill of this adventure begins: shimmying your way down to the unknown. From there, you’ll make your way through the canyon by leaping off multiple waterfalls, abseiling rock faces, sliding down nature’s “rock slides,” and cheering on your fellow canyoneers to take the plunge into the icy waters. All is finished off with a refreshing chilled Swiss beer and a sandwich.
After this exhilarating and breathtaking experience, I will forever be looking for another opportunity to chase waterfalls and any excuse to get back to Interlaken.
