5 Best Cinco de Mayo Celebrations on the Eastside

Cinco de Drinko!

Every year on May 5, we celebrate the Mexican Army’s difficult victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla, but this year things are getting turned up a notch because not only is Cinco de Mayo on a Saturday, but it is also the same day as the Kentucky Derby. That means that both bourbon and tequila will be flowing, good music blaring, piñatas swinging, barbeque grilling, and contestants seeing who can eat the most peppers.

So put on your best party hat and get ready for some tequila-filled festivities!

ADP

Austin Daily Press is celebrating the grand opening of their new location on East Cesar Chavez this Saturday. There will be everything you love about the old ADP, plus $1 beers and free hushpuppies ALL DAY!

Cinco de Mayo Festival Fiesta Gardens

For 13 years running, Fiestas Patrias of Austin has put on a Cinco de Mayo Festival. This year, the festivities will begin at noon at Fiesta Gardens and are absolutely free. Bring the family and enjoy an afternoon of music, vendors, and Mexican culture. Proceeds from the event will benefit Fiestas Patrias of Austin’s scholarship and community programs.

Paperboy

For the third year in a row, Paperboy — generally a breakfast trailer — will host its Cinco de Mayo dinner from 7-9:30pm. For $45, enjoy a five-course family-style dinner that will come with plenty of free margaritas, beers, and cocktails to keep diners from going thirsty.

Stay Gold

No Cinco de Mayo is complete without some guacamole. Thankfully, Stay Gold has its Guac Pari which will feature piñatas for crowds to whack after enjoying several avocado margaritas. Patrons will also be able to shop an on-premise pop-up and proceeds will go to Casa Marinella. The fun festivities are happening from 4-8pm.

Craftsman

If participating in Craftman’s hot pepper-eating contest is too much spice, it’s definitely worth the watch. Be entertained from 1-4pm, while enjoying 2 for $5 street tacos and some flavorful tequila libations to keep cool.
