From a free block party with Ballet Folklorico to $3 cocktails and a 1,000-taco drop, the east side is throwing down tonight. Here’s exactly where to go.
Cinco de Mayo in East Austin has never been a one-bar, one-party kind of holiday. It never was. This is the neighborhood where the culture lives, where the taquerias have been here longer than most of the condos, where the music spills out onto the sidewalk whether there’s a holiday or not. Tonight, the whole east side leans into it — and honestly, it’s worth your full attention.
We put together this guide the way we always do: as your neighbor who’s been in this neighborhood a long time and doesn’t want you wasting a Tuesday night at the wrong place. Start early, move smart, and let the east side do what it does best.
“This is the neighborhood where the culture lives — where the taquerias have been here longer than the condos.”
1. Blue Owl Brewing × Super Chilango — 1,000 Tacos. Seriously.
Start here. Blue Owl Brewing and Super Chilango have teamed up for a pop-up that is exactly as good as it sounds: a 1,000-taco drop inspired by Mexico City street food, paired with $3 specialty cocktails all night. East Austin’s favorite craft brewery doing Cinco with a legit taquero partner — this is what neighborhood collaborations are supposed to look like.
The hard truth: the tacos will run out. They always do. Get there early, grab a beer, grab your tacos, and settle in. Three dollars a cocktail is not a special you push through — it’s one you enjoy slowly.
🍹 Drink Specials
* Specialty cocktails — $3 all night
* 1,000 Mexico City–style tacos while supplies last

2. EastVillage “Center Stage” — The One You Don’t Miss
After your tacos, head here. EastVillage is throwing a free, all-ages Cinco de Mayo celebration at 3500 E Parmer Lane from 5 to 8 PM — and they are not playing around. Roy Lozano’s Ballet Folklorico de Texas takes the main stage, Mariachi Aguilas De Oro performs live, and there are tequila tastings and free bites while supplies last.
Bring a lawn chair. Bring your kids. Bring your parents. This is the kind of Cinco that reminds you what the holiday is actually about — culture, community, and music you can feel in your chest.

3. The Cavalier East Austin — Noon to Midnight, No Excuses
Once you’ve wrapped up at EastVillage, the Cavalier is where the night gets its second wind. They’re running from noon to midnight today, and the lineup is stacked: DJ Mordisco is on the ones and twos, there’s a fresh ceviche pop-up rolling through, and it’s 2-for-1 burger night on top of everything else.
But the drinks are what’s got people talking. The Clarified Margarita is the kind of thing that sounds like a cocktail bar flex and somehow delivers on it. The Frozen Paloma is exactly right for a warm May night. And the Frozen Red Headed Stranger — mezcal and strawberry lemonade — is the kind of drink that you’ll either love immediately or order a second before you’ve decided. Either way, you’re staying awhile.

4. Licha’s Cantina & Kinda Tropical — Rare Tequila, No Gimmicks
Two of the best bars on the east side are hosting the Carabuena Tequila pop-up tasting tonight, and this one is for the person who actually wants to learn something about what they’re drinking. Small-batch tequila flights, specialty cocktail previews — this isn’t a party trick, it’s a proper tasting.
Licha’s Cantina has been an East Austin institution long enough that the regulars don’t even bother explaining it to newcomers — they just take them there. Kinda Tropical brings a different vibe: loose, neighborhood-bar energy with a serious drink program underneath. Together, they make for a natural crawl between two spots that know exactly what they’re doing.
🍹 Drink Specials
* Carabuena Tequila flights — rare, small-batch
* Specialty cocktail previews

5. Veracruz Fonda & Bar, Mueller — The Right Way to End the Night
Somewhere in the middle of your evening, you’re going to want real food — not bar food, not a late-night slice, but actual cooking that respects the occasion. That’s Veracruz Fonda and Bar over in Mueller, where the regional Mexican menu is the real thing and the outdoor patio was made for exactly this kind of warm May night.
Live music on the patio. Festive cocktails. Ranch waters that do their job quietly and well. The crowd at Veracruz always skews toward people who are there because they love the food, which means the energy is right even when the place is packed. Close out your Cinco here, on a patio, with something worth eating. East Austin will thank you for it.
🍹 Drink Specials
* Classic Ranch Waters
* Festive cocktail menu
* Live music on the outdoor patio

That’s your night. Blue Owl first for the tacos, EastVillage for the soul of it, the Cavalier to anchor the evening, Licha’s and Kinda Tropical for the connoisseur in you, and Veracruz to close it out right. The east side does Cinco the way it does everything — with roots, with flavor, and without needing anyone’s permission.
Happy Cinco de Mayo, East Austin. We’ll see you out there.
