Mezcal Moments A Taste of Tradition & Nightlife

At La Mezca, every pour tells a story. The new mezcalería from the Vazquez sisters of Veracruz All Natural honors small-batch producers across Mexico, while introducing Austin to the artistry and complexity of agave spirits.

Beverage Director Sebastian Cajas says the focus is on connection to the land, the makers, and the communities at large. “When I sit down with a brand, the most important question I ask is, ‘What are you giving back?’” he explains. “We only carry sustainable, family-owned, small-batch producers. It’s about working with the community, not commercializing the culture.”

La Mezca is a place where guests can explore curated tastings while the team shares the stories behind each bottle and the long, patient process of its creation. “It takes anywhere from 15 to 30 years to grow certain agave plants. That’s a whole life in a bottle. We want guests to understand that before they take their first sip,” Sebastian continues.

The cocktail menu draws inspiration from Mexico City’s vibrant nightlife and rich cultural heritage. Drinks like La Frida, a tequila-based cocktail with white Arette, agave syrup, Clement Mahina Coco liqueur, lime juice, and Xocolatl Mole Bitters, pay tribute to iconic figures and flavors. El Mercado, made with botanical gin from Mexico City, channels the bustling markets where locals buy herbs and items for rituals. “The whole menu is inspired by the smells, colors, and energy of Mexico City,” Sebastian shares.

The bar’s design reflects that same mood: dark, modern, and lively. Early in the evening, guests sip and learn. Later, DJs spin while the mezcalería transforms into a lively social scene. The menu’s botanas, including guacamole, chips, and street-style taquitos, are crafted to complement the drinks, keeping the focus on the mezcal and the layers of flavors in their cocktails.

“La Mezca is about losing the fear of mezcal,” Sebastian says. “We want people to see it not just as a smoky tequila but as something worth understanding, celebrating, and sharing.”

Are You Going? First-time visitors should experience the bar’s educational and lively sides. “If you want to sip and learn about the history, come between 5 and 8 p.m. For nightlife energy, DJs, and dancing, visit on Friday or Saturday after 10.” Sebastian adds, “Try the fish tacos and a cocktail that fits your mood, whether that’s tequila, mezcal, or both.”
