For more than two decades, Buenos Aires Café has been more than just an Argentinian restaurant in Austin—it has been a story of family, resilience, and love. At the heart of it all are mother-daughter duo Reina Morris and Paola Guerrero-Smith, whose shared passion has transformed a dream into one of the city’s most beloved dining spots.
Reina moved to Austin from Argentina in 1997, carrying with her the flavors of home. After graduating from the Texas Culinary Academy, she worked tirelessly to find her place in the industry. In 2008, she took a leap of faith, opening Buenos Aires Café on East Sixth Street. What began as a humble start grew into a community cornerstone.
Paola, initially on a path in architecture, soon joined her mother, discovering her own calling in food and wine. Now a certified Argentinian pit master, she has helped expand the restaurant’s reach while deepening its roots. Together, they have weathered challenges—from the pandemic to Texas’ devastating freeze—always meeting hardship with generosity and strength.
This year, their milestone was recognized by the Texas House of Representatives. But for Reina and Paola, success isn’t measured by awards. It’s defined by family, community, and the love poured into every dish.
