What was once a vision is now a growing reality. Faiza Kracheni, a longtime musician and visual artist, saw a gap in Austin’s creative ecosystem: fellow creatives struggling to access the tools, spaces, and support they needed to bring their ideas to life. In response, she founded Austin Cinemaker Space, a nonprofit creative hub designed to provide affordable resources, foster collaboration, and empower local artists to take their work to the next level.
As an East Austin native and lifelong creative, Faiza began her artistic journey as a musician and later branched into visual arts. With roots deep in the city’s creative soil, she has long been a familiar face in Austin’s bustling art culture—building connections that have shaped her path. Now, Faiza’s flipping the script. Armed with a vision honed over years of collaboration and craft, Austin Cinemaker Space is now a hub where artistic exploration is encouraged and accessible.
“I created Austin Cinemaker Space because I noticed a gap within the creative scene,” Faiza notes. “It’s hard for people to nurture their craft when the cost of equipment and creative spaces aren’t feasible.”
From camera lenses to open studios, the tools needed to advance a vision are increasingly hard to access—and making a living from art can often feel unattainable. But with nonprofits like Austin Cinemaker Space, that dream doesn’t have to seem so impossible.
“It’s like a gym membership for artists,” Faiza explains. “People pay a monthly fee, but they have access to equipment, support, and spaces to do whatever they need to do.” At Cinemaker Space, members can take advantage of two studio spaces—one white, one black. Both are stocked with the essentials for bringing creative ideas to life: a variety of colored backdrops, tripods, C-stands, apple boxes, production lights, and more. But equipment is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the perks of their membership.
“Our main goal is to give Austin creatives a space to [make] art, but we also prioritize building a community where artists can flourish together,” Faiza says. Hosting events where local creatives can network is another way the team supports their members. At these events, members are encouraged to ask questions, give and receive feedback, and facilitate collaborations. This approach has bridged the gap between beginners and professionals, bringing community to the space.
As a self-taught artist, Faiza understands the challenges of bringing creative visions to life. But by recruiting a team of fellow artists, she’s built a place where creativity has no boundaries. With authenticity and accessibility as its mission, Austin Cinemaker Space is a unique place that nurtures the talents of those with ambitions to change the world through art.
